📚 Storytelling on the Spot Class 🎤✨ 🎯 Learning Objectives: By the end of this one-time class, students will: ✅ Enhance their creativity and quick-thinking skills. ✅ Develop confidence in public speaking. ✅ Learn how to build a structured story with a beginning, middle, and end. ✅ Collaborate and listen actively to others' stories. What to Expect: 📝 Class Introduction (5 min) 👩🏫 Teacher’s Opening: "Welcome to Storytelling on the Spot! Today, we are going to create amazing, unexpected stories using our imagination and a little help from mystery objects. The goal is to think quickly, embrace creativity, and just have FUN!" 🎉😎 I'll then explain that we do everything in alphabetic order. (Student with "A" name goes first- and so on.) 🎭 Warm-Up Activity: "One-Word Story": Students go around in a circle, each adding one word to create a collaborative (and often hilarious) story. ______________________________________________ 🎒 The Mystery Bag Challenge (Main Activity - 10 min) *Teacher will ALWAYS demonstrate a story first* 🎭How It Works: (Teacher will ALWAYS demonstrate a story first) 🔹The teacher has a bag filled with random objects (toy dinosaur 🦖, spoon 🥄, old key 🗝️, sunglasses 🕶️, etc.). 🔹She pulls out 3 objects without looking. 🔹First student has one minute (with a timer!) to think of a story using those objects. 🔹The student then tells a 1 minute story incorporating the objects in a fun and creative way. 🔹The class gives the student positive feedback and reactions! 👏😆 🔹Then the teacher pulls out 3 more items and the next student in line goes. 🔹After all students have finished, it's time to start a group challenge. _______________________________________________ 👀 For the challenge: (Team Activity- 10 minutes) 😜Now we try group storytelling, where each student continues the story for 30 seconds before passing it on! This one calls for quick thinking! 😆The teacher can pull out an extra object in the middle of the story, and the students have to adapt! 😁 _______________________________________________ 🎭 Reflection & Wrap-Up (5 min) 🌟 Discuss: What was the most surprising story today? How did it feel to improvise? What did you learn about storytelling? 📣 Final Challenge: Let students vote on their favorite story of the day.🎬👏 This class will spark creativity and laughter while helping students develop essential storytelling and public speaking skills! Come on in and join the fun! 🎉😊

Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm a very patient mother of four with YEARS of both personal and professional experience working with youth. I'm experienced working with LGBTQIA+ youth and neurodivergent youth as well! My own child is autistic with OCD and ADHD. :-) I am a former Preschool Teacher and Activity Director. I continue to work closely with youth by hosting sensory-friendly homeschool hangouts in my home for local children, hosting crafting/art classes online, and working with little ones to prepare for kindergarten. I keep loads of therapist-approved miniature toy items at hand for classes like this, that appeal to kids of all ages. As a homeschooling mom, I spend a lot of time encouraging imaginative play and improv games with my kids (ages 4-17 years old) and all of them love it!
