Listening! It is an important skill for language learners of all ages. If you are learning a new language or your own mother tongue, listening is crucial. How did you learn your first language? You listened to others speaking it. How will your children learn the vocabulary, proper grammar, and pronunciation of English? They will begin by listening. In this class, students will listen to an oral telling of a different version of what may be to them a familiar fairytale, "Jack and the...
Students will improve their listening and language skills by hearing a story, answering questions, then retelling the story. Students will be introduced to the vocabulary: fairytale, characters, setting, and sequence.
Twenty-three hours before class begins, the teacher will post a pdf of the stick puppets drawn specifically for this course. Students are encouraged to color, cut out, and glue the figures to craft sticks. If they do this, they bring their puppets to class to help them retell the story. This is not required, only encouraged.
Copy of puppet page (provided by Ms. Debbie), crayons or markers, scissors, glue or tape, and craft sticks of any size.
50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Students may use scissors to cut out the puppets. Please note, the giant will use the traditional lines, "Fee, Fi, Fo, Fum! I smell the blood of an Englishman. Be he alive, or be he dead. I'll grind his bones to make my bread."
