In this 5-week stair-stepped approach course, students will use a graphic organizer to outline a strong realistic flash fiction story after learning about plotting elements, then write their realistic flash fiction story. 

Each week, students will get a video lesson on the topic of the week, which will include several examples to illustrate what's being taught. Students will use a provided graphic organizer (after being taught how to use it) to outline their story. Students will use their outline in the last week of class to write their story.

💜 How much is the teacher involved and how can the teacher help my child?
     ~One of my favorite things about teaching writing is helping students with their ideas. I respond to every question or request for help as soon as I can, but no later than within 24 hours. I provide video and text feedback/help. After stories are submitted at the end of the course, I will review and provide feedback within 48 hours.

Learning Goals

By the end of five weeks, students will have written a strong realistic flash fiction piece. Additionally, students will gain a solid understanding of the steps needed to outline and write a story. The graphic organizer provided with this course can be used over and over again for any fiction writing project in the future.

Lesson 1:
Introduction to Realistic Flash Fiction
 Students will learn what realistic flash fiction is, identify realistic versus non-realistic, and read some examples. 
Lesson 2:
Class Expectations & Staying Organzed
 Students will get a brief overview of what to expect from this class, as well as how to use the graphic organizer throughout the class. 
Lesson 3:
Tone & Setting
 Students will learn the plotting elements tone and setting, look at some examples, take a short quiz, then write their own tone and setting using the graphic organizer. 
Lesson 4:
Character & Desire
 Students will learn how to craft a character and give them a desire, then use their graphic organizer to write about their own character and desire.

Students should have a basic understanding of how to write a sentence.
