Storybook Study is a one-time class for learners that have already read the book and want to participate in post-reading activities. Elmer is a special elephant because of his color. All the other elephants in his herd are an ordinary gray elephant color. Elmer is a patchwork elephant made of many different colors and always stands out no matter where he goes. Elmer begins to get tired of all the attention his colors get him and tries to paint himself gray like the other elephants. At first he enjoys being ordinary, but things get boring very quickly without his bright colors to cheer everyone up. By the end of the book, a rain cloud washes away the gray paint and Elmer realizes that he enjoys looking different and being himself. In this one-time class, learners will discuss and complete activities about the book 'Elmer the Patchwork Elephant' by David McKee. The post-reading activities are meant to help learners with comprehension and connections made by reading the story. The activities in this class include retelling and sequencing, text-to-self discussion questions, characterization and quotes, and drawings. This class will use Nearpod. Students will need a second device or split-screen to see both Zoom and Nearpod. In class we will: - Introduce ourselves and our favorite part of 'Elmer the Patchwork Elephant' - Retell the story - Share answers to discussion-based questions - Complete Nearpod interactive activities together - Close the class with students sharing their completed work

Hello and Welcome!
My name is Caitlyn Teacher. It’s great to meet you!

Dear Outschool families and learners,
I will be taking an indefinite break from Outschool as I am living abroad and unfortunately will not be able to continue teaching online for the time being. I truly enjoyed my time teaching on Outschool and hope to be able to start classes again one day.
Though I’ll be unable to teach on Outschool for a while, I will keep my profile open and can still be reached through Outschool messages!
Good luck in all your future classes and studies :)

***********************************
I have been volunteering and teaching in brick-and-mortar schools since 2013, and teaching online since 2021. I love teaching language arts (especially reading and writing), math, world cultures, K-Pop, and I am a huge fan of Disney. I want to share my passion for learning with students who have similar interests! I hope to encourage a passion for learning, inspire ideas for new interests and hobbies, and provide unique learning experiences for each student.
My classes cater to small group settings, with six or fewer learners in each class. This small group setting provides more opportunities for teacher-learner and learner-learner interactions. I structure my classes and lessons to encourage student discussion and interaction. There are many chances to ask and answer questions. The discussion questions are usually open-ended to allow learners to think creatively about an answer and lead to more personalized discussions.
I studied, trained, and became certified to be an elementary K-5 school teacher in America, then traveled abroad to teach English in Asia. I taught ESL to Korean middle and high schoolers for four years and finished a 120-hour young learners and teenagers TEFL/TESOL certification. While living in Asia, I took the opportunity to visit many countries and learn about new places and study new languages. I have been studying Korean since September 2017.
I look forward to when I can travel again! But from the comfort of home, I love still being able to connect with students all over the world through Outschool’s online classes!
I look forward to seeing you soon~
