Storyboarding is a great way to plan out your project’s timeline so that you can efficiently bring it to life. Whether it’s filmmaking, animation, or just envisioning your writing, storyboarding can help you stay organized under even the most stressful moments of project creation. The class is broken up into four parts: + What storyboarding is and why it’s necessary pre-production work. + The seven step process to creating a storyboard and what to include. + Students will participate in a brainstorming session as part of the creation process. + Examples of storyboards and how to adapt them to one that works best for your project. *Students are left unmuted unless they or their background are disruptive.
Learning Goals
In this class, students will learn:
+ The seven keys steps to creating an effective, efficient storyboard.
+ How to use camera angles to tell a story.
+ What the Rule of Thirds in photography.
+ Ways to use lighting and sound to generate emotion.
+ How to create your own storyboard template; examples are provided.
+ What open source digital tools can be accessed and utilized for free.

I will provide a downloadable storyboard template as well as a foldable zine guide of the seven steps and a resources list for a variety of free, open source and purchasable software programs.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
Over the years, I have utilized storyboarding for a variety of collaborative projects including graphic novels, animation, and independent film. I hold a Masters in Creative Writing specializing in Screenwriting (which will be a future class) and use storyboarding on a regular basis in conjunction with other project management tools.
