At the beginning of our story time, we will have the opportunity to introduce ourselves. Then we will talk about the author, illustrator, title and spine of a book. Before we read, we will explore a reading strategy or skill that we will be using for our story time. I will read and ask questions throughout our story. After story time, students will have an opportunity to continue to ask questions about our story as we enjoy class socialization. Please be aware if you change your child to another section, the story for that week may be different then their original class. Teacher expertise and credentials
Tennessee Teaching Certificate in Elementary Education
Hello Outschool families! My name is Mrs. Murray, the Joyful Librarian. I love to read, and I love to share my love of reading with all of my students! The main classes that I offer is story time and book clubs. I am a storyteller at heart! I use different character voices, animated facial expression and true excitement for reading to help me bring the story to life. In my classes, we are always learning different reading strategies and skills to help us become better readers!
I have been a school librarian for almost 20 years! I have a bachelor’s in mass communication and a master’s degree in educational leadership with an emphasis library science. My educational background and teaching experience have given me a great understanding of how to teach ELA standards as well as help students fall in love with reading. I have my Tennessee State Teaching License and I am very proud to share that I had the honor of being Teacher of the Year at the school level.
My core value of my teaching is to instill the love of reading with all my students. Every child can enjoy reading and if they currently don’t, then they just haven’t found the right book yet that will light that fire inside them. As a librarian, I am that tour guide to finding their spark!
My passion is reading as well as checkers and Minecraft. I hope to incorporate my other two interest in my teaching in the future.
I hope to see you soon!
