Story Time: What Does Bear See?
Students will learn all about colors as they join Bear and friends on their walk through the woods.

Get ready to enjoy a fun-filled class with Bear as he roams through his habitat, learning about colors. Your children will listen to a story, sing songs, and go on a treasure hunt to find objects with the colors talked about in the story. Students are encouraged to bring their teddy bear, stuffed animal, or doll to class and will be invited to introduce their friend to the rest of the group. Each student will have the opportunity to participate individually and as a group to demonstrate comprehension. This class will be a FUN and engaging way to learn about colors expand verbal and social skills.

Supply List
Students are encouraged to bring their teddy bear or other stuffed animal to class. After the story is read, the children will go on a short treasure hunt to find an object of their favorite color. If they wish, they can have this object selected before the start of class. I have attached a downloadable picture of a bear for kids to color after class. Students are invited to post their colored pictures on Twitter and tag me @MaryThrive or on Instagram @ thrivewithmary. I would love to see their finished artwork and will add my comments to their posting.

Hello! My name is Mary Mapel, and I live in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. I have an M.A. in Psychology and World Culture, and a B.A. in Early Childhood Education. I have worked as a marriage and family counselor, as well as a teacher both in and out of the classroom. I have three years of online teaching experience, and it brings me great joy to share my passion for learning with my students.
I homeschooled my son throughout his elementary and high school years. It quickly became apparent that Gabriel learned best when he was traipsing through the woods discovering hidden treasures that he later researched at home. In my role as his educator, I provided him with resources that assisted him in uncovering the answers to the many questions that naturally arose from his explorations.
As an Outschool teacher, I bring this same sense of wonder and inquiry into thematic based lessons. My Waldorf and Montessori inspired classes welcome and encourage students to interact with each other. I enjoy making genuine connections with students and their families and believe that the best learning occurs when students feel supported and loved.
