"Reading aloud with children is known to be the single most important activity for building the knowledge and skills they will eventually require for learning to read." ~Marilyn Jager Adams "The evidence has become so overwhelming that social scientists now consider read-aloud time one of the the most important indicators of a child's prospects in life." ~ Meghan Cox Gurdon Reading can and should be an enjoyable experience for everyone! This is how a LOVE for reading will be developed. Read alouds have a plethora of benefits for every child. Some of those benefits include: strong vocabulary development, building connections between the spoken and written words, provides enjoyment, increases attention span, strengthens cognition, and encourages positive relationships. Come and listen to an interactive story time where essential reading skills (speaking, listening, making predictions, identifying key details, and making inferences) are reinforced through questions and group discussion! A coloring page will be sent every week for learners to color while listening to the story if they desire. This actually helps with attention span and engagement! The class will be structured as followed: -greetings and introductions -the reading song -story opener (pre-reading strategies will be used to activate prior knowledge, make predictions, and increase student interest in the text) -picture book read aloud with the incorporation of questions and group discussion (regarding story elements) with peers to reinforce comprehension and engagement -closing Possible Stories: Big by Vashti Harrison The Day the Crayons Quit by Adam Dewalt After the Fall by Dan Santat Jabari Jumps by Gaia Cornwall Come and listen to a wonderful story every week! I am looking forward to seeing you!
