Class Experience

Students will predict story events.
Students will practice making connections.
Students will engage in learning dialogues with the teacher and peers.
Students will search the text to select appropriate information when answering questions.
Students will practice using story clues and prior knowledge (schema) to make conclusions about the story.
I have a passion for teaching reading. I've taught 2nd grade for 8 years and have a Masters in Reading. I believe that reading is fundamental. I want my students to become lifelong readers and develop a love for reading. I believe the best way to achieve this is to create a reading environment and give students access to a variety of books.
There will be no homework, but I do encourage students to read at home each day and apply what they’ve learned in class to their independent reading. The more students read and practice, the more they will see improvement in their reading comprehension.
Learners are welcome to color or draw a picture as they listen to the story.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The learner is assessed by participation and interaction.
25 minutes per week in class, and no time outside of class.
