I am an internationally bestselling author and illustrator of books for both children and adults. My mind is where creepy and cute meet. Although my passion is creating fun stuff for kids, I have always loved all things dark and mysterious. So creepiness manages to find it’s way into even my work with kids, and I’ve been delighted to meet many kids who share that interest. Sure, some of the world thinks we’re strange, but... I think that liking scary things is what makes us brave about real life. If you learn to love monsters, then what is there to be afraid of?
Writing notebook, pencil/pen (preferred writing instruments, could be the blood of your enemies; whatever!), sketchbook and drawing supplies if you think you will care to draw
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
This club is specifically geared toward kids who enjoy scary stories. The age range is from 8-13 so that younger writers can be inspired by the older ones, and the older kids can get to take pride in being role models. Therefore, things can get pretty creepy! I will NOT permit profanity or sexual content to be read aloud or submitted in the classroom, but most other themes of horror are fair game. Additionally, my experience with creators in this age group is that they are excited and eager to be inclusive in their writing, so characters who have non conforming gender identities may be created and will be wholeheartedly welcomed.

Think of it this way: Stephen King would NEVER be read aloud in my class, but his stories could be discussed or used as an example. I will leave the profanity and sex off limits, but outside of that, I do not like to limit a learner’s creativity or stifle their imaginations. So please only send me kiddos who LIKE shivers up the spine.
