In this 6-week class, students will listen and respond to animal & nature stories and then make a related craft.

Class Experience

Students will be taught listening and comprehension skills through the reading of books each week. They will also practice fine motor skills as they make crafts related to the books. The books and crafts will be related to animals and nature. We will cover the following topics: spiders, pigs, mice, owls, frogs, toads, and seasons. We will also make crafts that require us to cut, paste, color, paint, and lots of other fun things.

Students will improve their listening and comprehension skills as well as their fine motor skills.

I have taught classes that required crafting on several occasions: public school teacher, homeschool co-op teacher, and Outschool teacher. I remind students of safety measures to take when we are working with scissors, paint, glue, etc. Parents will also need to supervise their children during craft time.

Week 1: “Seasons”
 Supplies needed: brown pipe cleaners or yarn; brown, orange, yellow, red, pink, and green tissue paper; cotton balls; foam pumpkins or jack-o-lanterns (optional); liquid glue; ledger-sized paper (11x17); 12x18 construction paper for mounting tree trunks (tree trunk templates found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B2cW87Ro2GYdN1BlczJkUXNwRFk/edit)

Week 2: “Frogs and Toads”
Supplies needed: construction paper – black, white, red, green, brown; scissors; glue

Week 3: “Pigs”
Supplies needed: paintbrush; pink paint; black sharpie; pink construction paper; white printer or white construction paper; googly eyes; glue; scissors

Week 4: “Mice”
Supplies needed: toilet paper tube; googly eyes; scissors; glue; construction paper – pink, brown, black OR white

Week 5: “Owls”
Supplies needed: Construction paper (various colors); glue; scissors; googly eyes

Week 6: “Spiders”
Supplies needed: Construction paper (choose your own colors for your spider); scissors; glue; googly eyes; pink OR red marker; bamboo skewer

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Students will need supervision during craft time. There will be cutting, gluing, and painting in some of the crafts.
