Students explore the hands-on process of Stop-Motion through designing characters & objects. They will make their video game using these characters that they designed through simple, fun coding introduction.
Class experience
Don’t just play video games, make them! Students will learn to create a platform style video games, like Mario Bros or Sonic! But they will be doing them in a "Stop Motion" or "Claymation" style, where they design their characters from actual craft materials! Students create games using “kid friendly” Clickteam Fusion with the Kids Coding Template. It’s a great introduction for the younger kids! This class is taught in English.
1. Students will learn to use their artistic and creative talents to communicate and tell a story. 2. Students will learn to design their own characters, from 2D sketch transitioned to 3D Clay models. 3. Students will learn to identify and solve authentic problems into developing animated scenes and figure out a way (investigation) on how to fix them. 4. Students will learn to use critical thinking skills to plan out their video game and make informed decisions using appropriate digital tools and resources. 5. 2 files available upon enrollmentMaterials Needed: ✔️ Smartphone or Digital camera to take pictures of their Stop Motion characters and objects. (If you have 𝗦𝘁𝗼𝗽 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝗶𝗼 on your phone, you can use that. But you must save your animation as a 𝗚𝗜𝗙 file.) ✔️ Computer (Windows Preferred, but Macintosh would also work. Doesn't work on Chromebook.) Mac System Requirements: OSX 10.9 (Mavericks) to 10.14 (Mojave) MacOS 10.15 (Catalina) is NOT supported as this is a 32-bit application and Apple have removed support for 32-bit. Clickteam recommends macOS Sierra or above - please try the free version first to ensure it runs on your system. An internet connection is required for installation, updates and to download the software. ✔️ Clickteam Fusion * The Free Version of Clicktream Fusion (which only makes html5 apps), can be found here: https://www.clickteam.com/clickteam-fusion-2-5-free-edition * Or you can get the Paid Version of Clickteam Fusion, which is here: https://shop.clickteam.com/usa/41-game-app-creation * Or you can get "Games Factory" which is just like Clickteam Fusion (and costs less), but only builds Windows apps, which can be found here: https://shop.clickteam.com/usa/41-game-app-creation 🎈 Kids Coding Templates - These will be available to download when you sign up for the class. 🏗️ Highly Recommended Materials (But not Required): (These materials are what most students will use in the class. But they are not required for the class.) ✔️ Modeling/Oil-Based Clay or Legos (Modeling Clay is the best material for Stop Motion characters. But paper, Legos, toys - or even people - can also be used.) ✔️ Colored Paper ✔️ Scissors ✔️ Large Box - For Setting Up Background (This might not be necessary if your scene is located outdoors or in your home.) ✔️Scotch Tape and Glue 📎 Other Suggested Materials (But not Required): ✔️ Smartphone Camera Stand (If you are using a Smartphone and it doesn’t have a kickstand case) ✔️ Legos ✔️ Toothpicks and paperclips ✔️ Tablecloth ✔️ Sculpting tools ✔️ Styrofoam, armature wire, and/or foil ✔️ Pipecleaners ✔️ Toys ✔️ Beads and/or Buttons ✔️ Scraps of cloth. ⚠️ Please make sure Clickteam Fusion is installed prior to class.
