***THIS IS A FLEX CLASS, THERE ARE NO LIVE MEETINGS*** This course will be an in depth introduction to the stock market and investing. Students need no prior knowledge to take this class. This class will cover the basics that everyone should know about how the stock market works. This will not be a class on "how to pick stocks." Please make sure your learner is prepared to listen to the lectures each week, take notes, and ask questions! If they do not, it will be much more difficult for them to get important information out of this course and they may feel overwhelmed. If they stay on track each week, they will set themselves up for success. Since this is a flex class, students can participate during the days and times that work for them, but will still be required to be an active participant in the process. This class will work best only when students are active participants in the process. The student will need to check in and participate at least a couple of times a week. Weekly videos will be posted on Monday mornings, and students can watch these lectures on their own time. Videos will be anywhere between 20-35 minutes each. There will be one main video per week. Depending on the complexity of the topic, there may be additional videos provided for extra (optional) support. Students are expected to participate in the discussion at least 2 times throughout each week and come to a consensus with the guidance of the teacher. There will be multiple opportunities for discussion. A discussion question will be posted in the classroom each week. Learners are required to both create their own comment, AND reply to one other learners post. The discussion question will be an opportunity for students to research specific stocks online and explain why they chose them. Teacher feedback may be provided for discussion responses. Students are welcome to comment a typed discussion reply or record a video answering their question. Students will also be provided with a weekly self-paced Kahoot! quiz. This will help learners to review what they have learned each week and engage in healthy competition with other learners. For weeks 2 and 4, there will also be a weekly check-in where we follow how the students chosen stocks are performing. Students will post short weekly videos (or audio recordings) explaining the current stock price, how the price has changed, and more. The themes introduced each week will be: Week 1 : -What are stocks? -IPO -Stock exchange -Risk and Reward -Students will pick a stock online to follow for the next 4 weeks Week 2 : -Investing strategies -Supply & demand -Buy/sell/hold decisions Week 3: -ETFs -Market indexes -Diversification -How to read stock charts -Dividends Week 4: -Roboadviser vs online brokerage -Custodial account -Trading fees and limits -Tax advantaged investing (IRA) Important Notes : -I am based in the US.
