Stock Market - Section 1 In this 6 week Stock Market course , students work together to create and manage a virtual investment portfolio of real world stocks, bonds, and mutual funds. Students will be given $100,000 in virtual cash to begin investing / trading stocks. Each student is responsible for researching and evaluating potential investments. Students will make decisions on whether to buy, sell, or hold the stocks, funds, and bonds in the portfolio they have created. This course is not designed to be a lecture course. The teacher will use google slides to introduce and teach weekly topics, but students are strongly encouraged to actively engage in classroom discussions. It is very important that we discuss and communicate for the full understand of what is happening in our economy and how it impacts the stock market. Before you Invest - Students will learn the basic tools and resources about the stock market and how to choose a company to invest. What is a company? What is a stock and what it means to be “part owner.” How to use stock ticker symbols to locate companies and read the stock quote Selecting your investments - How to choose companies to invest Lesson 1 - Why Should I Invest? How do I invest? Lesson 2 - Fundamental & Technical Analysis Lesson 3 - The Power of Diversification? Lesson 4 - What is an Index? Lesson 5 - History of the Stock Market and 8 Historical Stock Market Crashes Lesson 6: Evaluate your investment strategies. Investing in the Stock Market - Students will use technical and fundamental analysis to choose companies to invest Select your investments based on diversification and learn how to diversify their stock market game portfolio by investing in companies in different sectors and industries. Students learn about diversification and how investing in different companies in different industries helps reduce risk and maintain a healthy portfolio. What is Risk? Students will understand that an informed investor must recognize the risks involved with every investment. Students will define and illustrate the three major kinds of risk. They will examine companies and assess their risk as investments. They will write a persuasive letter motivating or discouraging an investor from investing in a company they have researched. Students learn the concept of diversification and its relationship to risk. They will also define the term "risk tolerance." No prior knowledge required. How is your class structured? My class is structured to be a stress free, fun, and interactive learning environment to accommodate different learning styles and abilities. How will you teach? I will teach using slide presentation, interactive games and discussion for question and answer sessions. What's your teaching style? I believe that every child learns differently. I do my best to accommodate individual learning styles. How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)? Students will have the opportunity to discuss current market prices, trading practices, and factors that influence the stock market. 💥Learners will be rewarded with an Outschool coupon at the end of the course. Students will be given $100,000 virtual money to participate in a stock market simulation. At the end of the course, we will have a 1st place, 2nd place and 3rd place winner. My stock market game past participants earned 1st place in the state stock market game simulations with the highest percentage of profits competing against over 1200 teams.
