Students will use an easy and realistic online trading simulation platform to test out their analysis and stock market predictions. Each week we will explore the latest headlines - positive and negative company specific news, economic events, covid19, inflation, summer travel, etc. Positive news will normally cause investors to buy stocks. Examples include a good earnings reports, an announcement of a new product, a corporate acquisition, and positive economic events like falling unemployment all translate into increased stock buying and an increase in stock prices. Negative news, like a defective product recall or a lawsuit against a company, that may cause investors to worry and sell their stock, resulting in the stock priced going down. And sometimes, Bad News Is Good News! What??? Bad news for some companies is good news for others. For example, news that a hurricane has made landfall may cause the stocks of power companies to take a hit in anticipation of costly emergency responses and repairs. But stocks of building supply companies may go up for the same reason. This course will help students engage with the world around them and help them make sense of current events.
