Class Experience

Hello! In this class I hope to de-mystify investing in the stock market. I will explain the stock market and investing basics in simple language.
Topics covered will include, what are shares in a company, and what determines the price of a share.
We will figure out what type of investor you are, and how this is determined by your risk tolerance, your time horizon, and how hands-on you wish to be analyzing your investment choices. This will help to determine what types of investments are best for you.

We will discuss a variety of investment choices and strategies, and the advantages and disadvantages of each.
We'll take a look at how a stock index can tell you if today is a 'good day or a bad day' for stocks.
We will take a look at a specific stock as an example, and talk about the information available at any given time. Then we can decide whether it might be a good stock to buy or not. We'll shed light on what those financial terms mean when reading a stock quote.

Fundamental vs Technical Analysis and Qualitative vs Quantitative analysis will be explained in simple terms, and which is used when trying to 'get rich quick'.
The basics of how to open a brokerage account will be explained, and where to go to get even more educated on the topic of buying stocks.
The class will be structured as follows:
20 minutes lecture
10 minutes of class participation and discussion
10 minutes of question/answer (scattered throughout the classroom time)

I encourage class participation, and hope that learners will raise their hands during class, any time a question might arise. I will also have time for questions at the end of class. Some learners may prefer to listen and not participate, and that's fine too. It's a very welcoming environment. Thank you!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! I'm Jane and I have over 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience. For the past 6 months I've enjoyed teaching English online to children in China. It's been a huge learning curve, and it has made me a better and more creative teacher. I work hard to find the teaching style that fits each of my students. With 30+ years of experience in the financial management field, I am excited to teach children how to manage their money, and to build a healthy relationship with it; to learn the value of money and how to reach their short and long term financial goals. I believe that learning can be fun. We'll have a lot of hands-on learning and discussion. We'll talk about that they 'want' to buy, versus what they 'need'. I'm sure that will bring up a lot of interesting ideas!

Another class I'd like to teach for older kids is explaining banking basics- What's a debit card versus a credit card? How to build a strong credit history, what a credit rating is, the dangers of debt, and buying and selling stocks.

I may also sneak in a class on anything travel related, which is another passion of mine! I hope to see you in class soon!
