Class Experience
US Grade 6 - 9
This course will allow students the opportunity to learn more about the world around them, understand the importance of people, events and issues in the news that impact our financial investments. Students will learn to be critical readers and thinkers while engaging with the most important issues and helps build 21st-Century Skills. This weekly ongoing class will focus on topics from across the world, and effecting the everyday lives of students and our financial investments. Students are encouraged to follow the financial / economic news and be prepared to discuss the major current event topics each week. Students will have the opportunity to give a brief summary of their most important topic before the class. Students will have the opportunity to practice their stock market trading with a paper trading simulation in How the Market Works, so they can see real time effects on financial investments. CLASS STRUCTURE AND ACTIVITIES (Please note that schedule may vary) Each week a pre-recorded lesson and activity will be uploaded to the class room. Students will research a current event article for that week, summarize it and post it to the Outschool classroom for discussion. We will discuss some of the largest corporation and how the news can impact our investments. Given the sometimes divisive nature of current events topics, parental awareness of course material is vital. My concern is not on the opinions or political persuasions of students but rather how they express themselves. We will be respectful of each other as learners and be prepared to entertain ideas that may challenge us. Student engagement, socialize and discussion are highly important. Students participation in classroom discussion and interaction with the teacher and other students is highly encouraged. Prior Knowledge - Students should have knowledge of the stock market or have taken my prior course Introduction to the Stock Market
Learning Goals
Students will develop media literacy skills, a deeper understanding of current economic events, the effects on our economy and financial investments, and an appreciation of different forces affecting their lives.

My concern is not on the opinions or political persuasions of students but rather how they express themselves. We will be respectful of each other as learners and be prepared to entertain ideas that may challenge us.

I am an advocate of Career and Technical Education (CTE), life skill classes that are designed to provide students the knowledge and skills necessary for everyday living.
As a state licensed certified Business Education Instructor and attendee of the New York Stock Exchange Teacher Education Program, I am excited to share my knowledge of stock market. I spent a week with extensive interaction on the NYSE trading floor from brokers to having dinner with the CEO. My stock market game past participants have earned 1st place in the state stock market game simulations with the highest percentage of profits competing against over 1200 teams in the past 10 years.
