Do you ever stop to smell the flowers? Some bugs and animals get drawn in by the sweet smell as well but for some, it is a big mistake. The Venus Flytrap, Pitcher Plants, and Cape Sundew would be the worst flowers for small animals and bugs to smell. These carnivorous plants get their nutrients from absorbing other living things. That’s right, they make meals out of bugs and even small animals that land or crawl on them. The Venus flytrap is kind of like a ticking timebomb. Once an insect triggers one of the hairs on the Venus flytraps leaf it’s only a matter of time before the trap closes tight around it. In class, the students will learn many interesting facts about each plant. They will observe what each plant looks like and how it traps its prey. The students will learn what each plant likes to eat and how the plant gets the nutrients it needs from other living creatures. We will create a bug-eating plant drawing. #academic My teaching style: I enjoy having fun while teaching and politely encouraging my student to remember the rules to help the class run smoothly. I always want the students to share and interact as much as possible while allowing shy learners to watch and engage as they feel comfortable. I strive to help all learning types feel included in my class. My goal is to have your student share all the interesting facts they have learned for days after the class. My personal style of teaching is engaging, energetic, enthusiastic, with a touch of silly. I hope to share my passion for learning about all living creatures with each of my students.
Learning Goals
In this class, the students will make observations and predictions. They will be able to compare and contrast the different types of carnivorous plants. They will be able to describe how each plant attracts, traps, and digests its prey.
