What's included

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Learners will be set a weekly task to complete and upload, a Scavenger Hunt class challenge which is different each day and be invited to carry on the theme of the story with more optional creative activities.

Class Experience

All the fun of the live Story Fairy classes but as this is a flex class ANY learner can enjoy them at ANYtime regardless of their time zone, schedule or location.

This is not just a drama class either but includes weekly especially created Story Fairy colouring sheets, creative tasks to do, crafts to make, and creative writing resources to engage with. Learners can have fun posting in the classroom if they wish so the Story Fairy can comment on them and send a little personalised video message saying what she liked.

Learners will be given access on the Monday of each week, to a different 30 minute Story Fairy video, which has been specially created for this course (not recorded on Zoom), with useful additions of helpful acronym breakdowns of the specific drama skills to aid learning, and lots of green screen and video editing magic to engage little learners.

The Fairy Tales we will explore are:
Week 1- Help the 'Little Red Hen' make her bread, from planting seeds to putting it on her plate. When her 3 friends refuse to help. Learn about how actors show emotions and how to create strong facial expressions.
Week 2- Help the '3 Little Pigs' (ring finger puppets) build their houses from straw, sticks, and finally bricks, and look out for that wolf. Learn about making a scene look interesting and how to create interesting still images.
Week 3- Help Geppetto make his wooden puppet, and help 'Pinocchio' decide what are right and wrong choices. Learn what a thought track is and how it can help us learn more about a character.
Week 4- Help the 'Elves (walking finger puppets) and the shoemaker' make wonderful shoes. Learn what dynamics are in acting and how we can use them.

Monday: WATCH and DO- Learners can watch and join in with the Story Fairy video to explore a recognisable Fairy Tale, where learners are encouraged to help and 'become' the characters in lots of different ways, using and developing their drama skills and sometimes meeting some non-intimidating puppet friends too. Then they can complete/start work on the week's task and take part in the daily Scavenger Hunt by posting pictures for the Story Fairy (or other learners) in the classroom.
Tuesday: COLOUR- They can draw a picture of their favourite scene from the story, or colour in the specially created Story Fairy downloadable sheet if they prefer. Uploading photos of their work to the classroom to share. They can then take part in the new daily Scavenger Hunt, if they wish, by posting pictures for the Story Fairy (or other learners) in the classroom.
Wednesday: CRAFT- They can take part in the provided craft activity (things like a cut-out and play mini Bingo game or a walkable finger puppet template to make and play with). Uploading photos of their work to the classroom. They can then again take part in the new daily Scavenger Hunt by posting pictures for the Story Fairy (or other learners) in the classroom.
Thursday: CREATIVE WRITING- They can do some creative writing linked to that week's story (a guide storyboard sheet is provided to help, for those that need it). Upload their work (or photos of) to the classroom. They can then take part in the new daily Scavenger Hunt by posting pictures for the Story Fairy (or other learners) in the classroom.
Friday: CREATE- They can build/create something related to that week's Fairy Tale story (for example their version of the setting for the story). Uploading photos of their creations to the classroom. They can then take part in the new daily Scavenger Hunt by posting pictures for the Story Fairy (or other learners) in the classroom.

**As this is a flex course though, with no live meetings, learners can actually choose to do the activities in any order they wish, when they wish, and they don't need to have seen the week's video before they can take part in the daily Scavenger Hunts either, as it is exploring ideas for the next week's Fairy Tale**

This class is suitable for learners who have met the Story Fairy in a live class already, or have not met her yet, and for those who love drama, or for those for which this is their first proper taste.

Even though there are no live classes, learners will still have plenty of chance to interact with the Story Fairy (who will record some personalised messages for learners who post things in the classroom, thanking them and commenting on her favourite bits), and learners who join us from all over the world, by sharing photos of their weekly class task, and any optional extra tasks they complete, in the classroom for comments and feedback. They can also have fun taking part in the daily Scavenger Hunts which allows them to start thinking about and preparing for the next week's Fairy Tale story.

'With a flick of my wand, and a wave of my hand, let's take a journey to Storyland'

Parental Guidance
Even though this class is all delivered via pre-recorded video, the video is an active class, so please make sure your learner is dressed so they can move around comfortably (even if that is in their chosen costume for the day), make sure they also have adequate space where they won't bump into anything, and a drink near-by in case they need it. All Fairy Tales have been adapted to be age appropriate and often learners will be asked to become characters or meet a non-intimidating puppet.
Supply List
Each week learners can opt to download the colouring in sheet for a scene in the story, the craft worksheet and/or a storyboard sheet to help with the creative writing task.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Non-US Teaching Certificate in Music/Theater/Arts
Bachelor's Degree in Music or Theatre or Arts from University of Southampton
I am a fully qualified teacher (BAPA, PGCE) with 16+ years of experience teaching Drama, English, Music, PSHCE (Personal, Social, Health, and Citizenship education), and Performing Arts in bricks and mortar schools, where I currently still teach part-time. I also run small group confidence-building workshops and 1:1 tutoring sessions. I have many years of experience leading community workshop schemes (like 'create a play in a week') and local drama groups for ages 4 to 16 as well.

As a professional actress, I've performed for children from ages 2-14 in theatres, arts centres, social clubs, historical properties, nurseries, and schools. Playing roles such as the Gingerbread man and a tortoise, to a wartime headmistress and Queen Elizabeth the first! With lots of Q & A and interactive workshops along the way.

I then branched into presenting (live, events, radio, some TV, and for holiday companies across Europe) including some Voiceover work. I currently create and present drama and presenter tuition videos and have a regular podcast.

I have produced and directed many productions (musicals and plays) as well, including some I have written myself.

I am a Mummy to two young kids myself too, in fact, that is how the 'Story Fairy' was born!
