Class Experience

This is a themed, step by step drawing class. Some weeks will focus on one specific animal, drawn in different ways, while other weeks will focus on 2 animals that we compare and contrast.

Each class, students will get to draw first, then get time to outline their drawings and fill them in with color as well. I break each animal down into steps and we go through them all, one at a time. I never want my students to feel rushed, so I allow them to draw at their own pace. Once ready, I ask each student to give me a thumbs-up when they are ready to move on. This method ensures no one falls behind or becomes overwhelmed while learning and creating their artwork!

Our first week's theme is Foxes and will feature step by step instruction on how to draw both an Artic Fox and a Red Fox. Learners will get to hear as cool facts and trivia about each animal as they draw as well.

Here are the themes and dates for the various, currently running classes!

Week 1 - Red Fox vs Arctic Fox
Week 2 - Jaguar vs Leopard
Week 3 - Falcon vs Hawk
Week 4 - Rhino vs Hippo
Week 5 - Giraffes
Week 6 - Alligator vs Crocodile
Week 7 - Parrot vs Toucan
Week 8 - Monkeys vs Apes
Week 9 - Sloths & Lemurs
Week 10 - King Cobras & Scorpions

Learning Goals

In my experience, getting to create art while learning helps spark the interest of what ever subject I teach my students. It’s my hope that after each class my students will not only gain more confidence in their drawing abilities as well as, self expression, creative thinking, and basic color theory, but also that they get to walk away with tons of new knowledge about animals with whom we share our planet as well as a love for art and science!

Teacher expertise and credentials
I attended the University of Oklahoma and studied Zoology. I have made it a life long goal to strive to learn as much as I can about the Earth, its animals and habitats. I think animal science is important and it is a personal passion. Though I have dedicated many years of study to Zoology, I never turned my love of science and animals into a career. Instead I decided that my second love, art, would be my topic of choice to teach. I have taken many online, and in-classroom drawing, painting, and art theory classes. I have 7 younger siblings, and also have a lot of nanny experience. The kids I care for, my siblings included, have all enjoyed, and benefited from my knowledge of drawing, painting, and art. Having been around children my entire life, I have the patience and positive demeanor necessary to teach young students to draw step by step with a smile. It is a good way for kids to hone in on their artistic and creative potential, while defining their individual aesthetic. This class allows for the combination of both science and art and is my absolute favorite style class to teach!
