Class Experience

*Can your learner read small words with the short vowel sound? These words are called CVC words, or consonant-vowel-consonant words. If you learner has conquered this first step in reading, then they are ready to read CVCe words, which are words with the silent e at the end of a small word, causing the first vowel to make a long vowel sound.

*In this ongoing class, learners will learn this important concept of the "silent e" rule while practicing reading CVCe words and then being guided into reading sentences.

*This ongoing course is my second level course in a series of two. This particular course encourages students who are ready to enhance their reading skills by moving on to this key step of reading small words with the long vowel sound in words such as "cave, side, rope, tube." We will learn to read CVCe words through games and activities in an interactive, small class setting, with a new theme each week.

*Students will have the opportunity to practice the new words by reading sentences independently, or with teacher guidance as needed, to further practice their new reading skills!

*Feel free to drop in at any time as I will cycle back through the content after we have completed all of our CVCe words. Please see the bottom of this description for the class schedule.

*Printouts will be available for students but are not a requirement. Students can write on paper during class if they would like.

*An after class handout will also be made available for students who would like to practice their new skills.

*Necessary prior knowledge: Students will benefit from being comfortable in reading CVC words, in which case, I do offer an ongoing class that focuses on this particular skill to practice words such as "bat, bed, sip, rod, bug."

*I offer an energetic class environment where I genuinely strive to help students feel confident in learning to read. It is always my hope that students are participating and engaging in class as much as they feel comfortable to do so. When students are having fun, they are learning the most!
