Class Experience

US Grade 2 - 5
During this class students will be building, mixing and creating. Each class we will work on a different STEM Challenge designed to promote independent thinking along with group think. If two heads are better than one then what do you think three or four or more can do? That's right! We will get busy using different household materials to create, learn and solve. This class is designed to encourage our students to work together, learn from each other and also have some fun watching Science at work! Our goal is to have a great time learning!

My classes are hands on, group oriented and student driven. I provide the ideas and then get the students thinking. This class will begin with introductions. A large part of this class will be interaction. We will work as a big team to build with design as well as mix up some fun Science in our kitchens using common household items for experimenting and building. We are always working to develop communication skills so that will be a large part of this class. We will learn from each other about contributing to a project while having fun. I will be the give suggestions in class giving guidance to learners as they plan their project, create their project and then make changes to improve. I am a very interactive teacher. I love this age group and working with them.

Just some of the things we will be doing in class together include things like:

Tower Building
Cups UP
Dancing Rice
Marshmallow Mania
Float Your Boat
Water Colors
Amazing Mazes
Freeze out States Of Matter

Upon enrollment you will find the supply list for each class in the classroom. After each class, I will provide the needed class materials list for the next class in the classroom area. I will also send it directly to each parent after every class. Each week we will work on a different Stem Challenge which includes Science experiments or "building" challenges.

These challenges will require each student have a clear spot to work. I suggest a desk or table designated to a good working space. We want to be also be able to show off our creations. I always suggest building (when possible) on a baking sheet. This allows our students to pick up their creation and show it to the rest of the class and keeps things from getting too messy! Let's get building!

For Parents:
**Younger 7 year olds might need some assistance or observation from a distance on a few of these experiments. I try to keep the instructions simple so students can do these on their own. Most will be fine without much help at all.

** I suggest setting this up at a table/desk with the device just slightly in front of the student so we can see the table and student. This will make sharing easier to prevent needing to move the camera.

***A complete listing of supplies for each class can be found in the classroom tab each week. This is an ongoing class so the supply list changes each week. Please contact me upon enrollment if you enroll mid-week and I will send you the supplies list.
I do try to send them when I see an enrollment come in*****

** The zoom window will open approximately 2 minutes prior to class start time!
** I will accommodate transfers outside of 24 hours notice. This allows me to transfer your student and also recoup a learner from the seat they previously occupied. I do appreciate your understanding that for my ability to allow new learners to access class.
** I do not grant refund requests for missed classes. Please refer to Outschool for refund requests related to illness or changed schedules which fall outside this classes limited refund policy.

Other Details

Supply List
A supply list will be given in the classroom for each class. After each class I will post the supplies needed for the next week. I will also post it to each parent after class. I will be working with mostly common household items. Some of the challenges will require additional items. I do my best to keep purchasing to a minimum.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
