What's included
4 live meetings
3 hrs 40 mins in-class hoursHomework
1-2 hours per week. Each week there will be projects given to explore and expand upon the skeleton projects presented in class. The student is expected to implement and expand the code, adding their own creativity and personality.Class Experience
NOTE: This is a continuing education class utilizing the robot kit built in my Beginner Robotics Class. The students are required to have completed the beginner class and have a working robot to use in this class. Here is the link: https://outschool.com/classes/robotics-using-microbit-beginner-class-hands-on-build-a-real-robot-sUNQmOFw#us5w5buIzr In this class we will add a fun ability, voice command! Well, the robot does not have the direct ability to understand language, but we will approximate this using the sound sensor on the microbit. Recognizing different levels, duration and sequences of sounds we can program different commands to be executed. IMPORTANT: This process will ONLY WORK WITH V2 MicroBits. If you have a V1 microbit, you must replace it with V2 to make this class possible. In between classes, each student is expected to build out the skeleton programs presented in class using their own creativity and skills. This is the fun part! Learn a basic skill and then add your own creativity to it! You can then present the final product back to the class on the following week. Class progressions: Week 1: Introduction to sound sensors and abilities, with basic coding Week 2: Responding to basic sounds Week 3: Responding to sound sequences week 4: Review, Q&A, ideas for further study
Learning Goals
The goal of this class is to expand the robotic understanding and skills. Specifically to understand how sound sensors work, and to understand how to code them to create a usable effect. This stretches the students skillset broader and deeper.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been involved in computer science and robotics for 5 decades, having hand built my first robot as a teenager back in the day where parts had to be manually hard wired from scratch. In my career I have touched on many hardware / software disciplines and have several patents to my name in this field. This gives me a unique view on hardware and software as two parts of a whole end product.
In addition to the technical skills I have spent decades explaining difficult computer science concepts to non-technical crowds including investors, administrators, salesmen, etc. This provided a solid basis for teaching these skills in an age appropriate manner.
My computer science classes bring these two (technical abilities and teaching experience) together into a fun, exciting hands on experience that is age appropriate.
I have worked with this particular Yahboom robot for about 4 years now, and successfully taught basic robotics and some fairly advanced concepts) with this robot to hundreds of students.
