Teacher, Ms Simply Sarah, is a certified teacher holding a state certificate in Elementary Education, English as a Second Language, and Gifted and Talented. Her expertise include developing enrichment opportunities and support for Gifted and Talented students beyond their regular educational curriculum.  Her passion is creating unique and personalized learning activities for students to be challenged, so they never find learning boring!
Bridge Breaking ~ 4 sheets of 8 1/2 by 11 notebook paper or printer paper (Please no card stock or thick paper) ~ Scotch tape (Example: clear wrapping paper tape) ~ Dark writing utensils (marker, dark crayon) ~ 1 sheet of blank paper to draw bridge plan design ~ Multiple magazine, paperback books, or soft cover chapter books to put on the bridge to test the strength (The same size books or magazines will make it easiest to stack on the bridge) ~Scissors Farthest Flight ~ 3 Types of Paper from List: Wrapping paper, Tissue paper, Newspaper, Magazine paper, Printer paper, Paper bag, Card stock Paper, Paper Towel, Toilet Paper, Graph Paper, Wax paper ~ Measuring Tape, Yard Stick, Ruler ~ 1 Sheet of Blank Paper ~ Printable Graph Handout ~ Scissors Egg-cellent Engineering ~ 2 Gallon Sized Clear Ziplock Plastic Bag ~ Raw Eggs 2-3(Uncooked) ~ Packaging Tape ~ Blank Paper ~ Colorful or Dark writing utensil (Example: marker, crayon, colored pencil, etc.) ~ 3 Different Materials: Paper, Tissue Paper, Cotton Balls, Paper Towel, Newspaper, Dry Cereal, Flour, Toilet Paper, Sand, Dirt, Popped Popcorn, Corn Kernels, Sunflower Seeds, Rice *Remember the challenge (How can a raw egg not break when dropped?) ~ Something to cover the floor where drop is performed ~ Scissors
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will be designing and testing multiple prototypes for each challenge.  Adult supervision and approval is required for the student’s designs and testing environment.
