STEM STEAM Club. This is an 8-week course, for children who want to participate in a STEAM Club. We will create using the Engineering Design Process, beginning the activity in class and working on the build prototypes both in and outside of class. Students will be encouraged to follow the Engineering Design Process and bring their completed projects to the following class; with the exception of the 8th class. The class will begin with short introductions, a brief discussion about what students know about STEAM, and a learn a bit more about the weekly topic. Students will be given a Question or Problem to solve using the Engineering Design Process. We will work through that process and have time to work on our projects in class for a period of time. In each class, we will learn about the Engineering Design Process and STEM Careers, along with the listed activity: Class 1: Create and design Bridges. Class 2: Create and design Shoes. Class 3: Create and design a Kite. Class 4: Create and design a Boat. Class 5: Create and design a Rocket. Class 6: Creare and design a Fishing Pole. Class 7: Create and design a Wind Car. Class 8: Create and design a Tent. Students will be encouraged to continue outside of the classroom to complete their projects. They can test and troubleshoot outside of class and share their completed designs with the group the following week. With exception of the 8th class. Students will have an alternate activity that will be fully completed in the classroom. Students will share their projects and we can discuss their plan, process, design, and thinking. This will provide us a way to practice communication skills and collaboration skills in our online class. Students will be encouraged to be creative, to think outside of the box. Creativity is encouraged and no two projects will be exactly alike with participants. Class is taught by a licensed teacher with a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and Elementary Education with more than 13 years of experience teaching children in a school setting. I hold a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction, emphasizing STEAM and Online Teaching and Learning Certification.
