3 hrs 40 mins in-class hours
Homework
Each day students will be able to continue the class lab and lessons outside of the classroom, but there will be no actual 'homework' to complete
Assessment
Learners progress will be assessed by their general understanding and grasping of the class exercise and by their completion of the total engineering project.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
Beginner - Advanced Level
In this class students will build, code, and create a simple digital thermometer.

Students will learn about circuits & sensors by building a circuit that will be used to read a temperature and show that temperature on a digital display, with a few extra features

Class #1: The temperature sensor

Class #2: The digital display

Class #3 Temperature conversion feature

Class #4 The light sensor & dimming feature

The circuit and code will be built virtually first and then converted to a digital thermometer to use at home.
Learning Goals
In this class students will learn the design skills and practical applications of electrical engineering while learning about coding, sensors, and microcontrollers.

Students will learn about & work with:
1. Temperature sensors.

2. Digital displays.

3. Photosensors and pushbuttons

4. Writing Code.

Parental Guidance
In this class students will build, code, and create a simple digital thermometer. Students will learn about circuits & sensors used to read the temperature of a room and display it for all to see (with a few extra features). This project is for educational purposes ONLY and should not be used by the student as an actual thermometer for health concerns The TinkerCAD online platform will be used for developing circuits and writing code used to interact with the project. The Arduino Programming Environment is utilized by TinkerCAD and is necessary to have in order to move the code in TinkerCAD to your student's actual Arduino board. These resources require NO user accounts to access and are completely FREE educational resources. You can view both resources here: TinkerCAD - www.tinkercad.com Arduino - www.arduino.cc
Supply List
There is an external resources list we will be using to do our class & exercise work. A file is attached with the extra resources that will be needed to complete the exercises in this course.
