STEM Challenges With Ms. Erin Part 1

US Grade 2 - 4
In this 4 week long multi-day class, students will participate in weekly exciting and engaging STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) challenges using simple materials found at home. ***This class is a mini version of my ongoing STEM challenge class. Part 1 and part 2 can be taken interchangeably. Each class will begin with an introduction to the challenge of the week through a presentation, video clips, images etc... Ms. Erin will ask the students many different questions...
Students will improve their critical thinking and logical reasoning skills. They will learn to be more persistent and creative. They will have fun completing exciting challenges.
I am a certified elementary school teacher. I taught science in a live classroom for 5 years and I've been teaching science on Outschool for 3 years.
If you are ever missing any of the materials, just let me know! There are always alternatives, or you can simply watch the activities and still enjoy the class! Week 1: How Strong is Spaghetti? Uncooked spaghetti or any straight, long noodles 2 thin pieces of styrofoam OR play dough/clay Books or blocks to test your structure! Week 2: Ziplines String Scissors Tape A small cup, plastic egg, basket, container Small toys Pipe cleaners or extra string Week 3: Hoop Gliders Paper Scissors Tape Plastic or paper straws/skewers Week 4: Tallest Towers Scissors Tape Recycled materials (small boxes, toilet paper rolls, newspapers, etc....)
Some of the challenges may require the use of scissors or possibly a hot glue gun and will require parental supervision. I will always indicate this in the classroom.
