This class teaches the chemistry behind food spherification.

Class experience

US Grade 6 - 9
Students will learn the science behind the Spherification of foods and then will practice their knowledge by making three different types of Spherification foods.

Students will learn why pH is essential in producing synthetic foods and test hypotheses to determine the best chemical combination to create spheres from juice, ketchup, and chocolate.
Mrs. Barenborg is a lifelong educator. She has taught middle school sciences and also loves to eat! She has mixed these two loves into this special camp. She has degrees and concentrations in Physical, Health, Science, Elementary Education and a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership.
Homework Offered
Students will be asked to refrigerate things overnight and return them to room temperature before the next class. Students will be encouraged practice and try different juices to create Spherification.
2 - 4 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
The teacher will view student work to see how their process is working as the teacher demonstrates and questions students' knowledge of the science behind spherification.
