Join us for some fun as we use our imaginations and weekly themes to build, design, and engineer with your favorite building bricks! In this incredible class, students will be presented with a STEM themed challenge. Every week will be a new and exciting theme to challenge your young learner to create new builds and make new friends. Class will start with a discussion of the theme, STEM based, maybe some photos for inspiration, and then learners will enjoy about 20-25 minutes of build time to engineer their creations. At the end of class, they can share their creations with each other (not required)! This class is a fun and engaging class to get students thinking and it is not a competition. Classes will be kept at 7 students, so each learner can have a chance to participate and not feel left out. Big classes can feel overwhelming to young students, and this class is not only to engineer and create, but also to allow social interaction between everyone! We will learn through our builds, through guided discussion while we build, improve our spatial abilities, problem solving skills, and develop our fine motor skills! Children learn best when they can use their hands and building bricks and STEM together is perfect for that! We will not be looking at a powerpoint or sitting through a long lesson! After about 35 classes, lessons repeat, with some lessons that are seasonal being added and of course new ideas or requests being added in. Please note, sometimes class can run 5 minutes over because everyone is sharing at the end. *All students participating must be registered. I believe in igniting the fire for the love of learning and meeting children where they are at. I also believe the best way to learn is through play, hands on experiments, and having fun. My favorite things to teach are STEM, Math, facilitating safe gaming classes, and reading classes.
I attended University of Houston at Clear Lake and received my Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education- Young Children with Disabilities and my Master’s degree in Early Childhood Education- Children with Disabilities. I was the owner and founder of The Mind Body Lab, where I taught STEM, Art, and Yoga classes. I am also a private tutor.
I was the Assistant Director of Early Childhood camps for University of Houston at Clear Lake, and for 6 years I designed, developed, and implemented inclusive camps for young children. I have also taught a homeschool science classes at a local nature center, where I prepared lesson plans, wrote lessons that included STEM, and instructed an inclusive class.
I believe every child learns in a different way and the way I teach will reflect that. I plan my classes in a way where all learners needs are met, we do not all learn the same so I offer multiple ways to understand the subject.
I have homeschooled my children for the last 12 years. I am a first degree black belt and love everything martial arts!
