Stellar Stars (Flexible Schedule)

Want to know more about the stars in our universe? We observe them from a distance when we gaze into the night sky but what are they really like? Understand the characteristics of stars, their interesting life cycles and how scientists categorize types of stars. 

Week #1: Star properties and types are introduced in a detailed recording embedded with resources. Learners discover how to locate the North Star (Polaris) and other easy-to-find constellations. Learners organize these concepts using a graphic organizer.  

Week #2: Learners choose and share their favorite star with the class! Interaction includes teacher feedback and discussion of notable stars, such as our own Sun.

Week #3: The life cycles of various stars are highlighted in a detailed recording. Learn about nebulas, supernovas, black holes and more! Learners showcase their understanding of stars by completing the provided Life Cycle of Stars infographics and flowcharts. 

Week #4: Learners further develop a knowledge of a star's life cycle by using a scatter plot of stars (HR Diagram) to build critical thinking skills. Using the diagram, learners make predictions and share conclusions about other properties of a given star. 



* This is a flexible schedule course with NO live meetings. Learning materials will be shared through the Outschool classroom. Learners can move asynchronously using recorded presentations with detailed explanations, embedded resources & videos, activities, and graphic organizers. Interaction between teacher & peers occurs directly through the classroom with discussion and questioning. Completed assignments are sent to the teacher to monitor progress and encourage feedback. I can also meet live with students that need help if requested.
