Beginner Level
This is a self-paced, play-based STEAM class. There are no live meetings with the teacher. Students will gain key science knowledge through making projects with modeling dough or clay. Each unit includes a playlist of three instructional videos. The first video will provide an engaging lesson about the instructional topic. The second video will include step-by-step instructions to help the learner create a modeling dough or clay project about the lesson subject. The final video will include a poem and song about the lesson topic, along with a review activity to help the learner recall essential information about the science theme. Students will interact with the teacher in several ways during each unit. At the end of video #1, the teacher will pose a learning challenge question. Students may upload a brief video clip or photo of their answer to the learning challenge. After the learner completes his modeling dough or clay project during video #2, the learner may upload a photo and description of his project, or a brief video clip about the project. Finally, after video #3, learners may upload a video of themselves singing the lesson song, reciting the lesson poem, or telling their favorite aspect of the lesson topic. Since the majority of students in this class will likely be non-readers, the teacher will respond to student interaction primarily through short video clips.
