Students will be invited to think about how putting together, taking apart, combining, balancing and more can be done with loose parts through the lens of a weekly inspiration. Inspirations range from wonderful books, lovely nature treasurers and magnificent man-made structures. Class structure: -Name song -Daily inspiration -Create together -Share creations -Goodbye song What are loose parts? Loose parts are materials with no fixed purpose. They can be moved, lined up, carried, combined, taken apart and more. They are nature and man-made. Why loose parts? -Endless ways to create and explore -Open-ended learning -Promotes creativity -Increases brain development -Encourages competence -Promotes experimenting What is divergent thinking? Divergent thinking is the ability to generate many different ideas or solutions about a topic in a short period of time. This skill helps children become excellent problem solvers.
Learning Goals
1. Learners will learn to hone their creativity skills by engaging in divergent thinking.
2. Learners will learn and practice approaches to divergent thinking.
3. Learners will express themselves through the process of manipulating objects and creating a masterpiece.

Parental Guidance
Leaners will be encouraged to use parts in new and innovative ways. It is recommended that they are only provided with materials for which you are comfortable with them exploring in this new and fun way.
Supply List
What loose parts do I need? Anything you want! (Some weeks I will post ideas for materials based on the weekly inspiration) Some examples include: Sand, dirt, sticks, grass, leaves, flowers, pinecones, pine needles, seeds, shells, bark, feathers, rocks, balls, straw, buckets, cups, container, chalk, scarves, ribbons, fabric, blocks, paper, wire, buttons, popsicle sticks, beads, straws, corks, egg cartons, paint, color paint swatches from the hardware store and more! Note: Some learners may be overwhelmed by too many options. In this case I recommend gathering 3-5 options. Where can I find loose parts? Recycle bin, nature, kitchen cabinets, neighbors and/or local hardware, craft or dollar store. How do I collect them? -Ask your child to collect them. -Collect them for your child. -Ask neighbors to donate items they may have.
