Class Experience

In this ongoing STEAM camp, we will meet once a week. Your child is welcome to start at the beginning and follow along for each week, or come and go as fits your schedule! The challenges and classes do not work together with the previous one, so your child will not be confused if they jump into a class.

S.T.E.A.M. is science, technology, engineering, art, and math. These are all such fun subjects and children can easily find themselves interested in them if they are engaged. With my weekly challenges, I work hard to plan in a way that all children, regardless of their learning style, are engaged, learning, and having fun while doing so! A supply list is provided the week before each class and the entire class will be doing the same challenge together, using the same materials, but the way it is done will be left up to the child. This is where creative thinking skills come into play. Your child will get to think, plan, and construct their own masterpiece. I am always there to help each child with ideas if they need them, and offer any guidance and advice! I too will be doing these challenges along with them.

Once we finish each challenge, we will take turns showing the class what we made. Then, if applicable, demonstrations will be done. After, we discuss what worked and what didn't. We problem solve any issues and try to come up with a fix as a class.

CHALLENGES BY WEEK:

Week 1: - Camping with a Tent
Week 2: - Rainbows
Week 3: - Build an Umbrella
Week 4: - Catapult
Week 5: - Egg Drop

More weeks to come with interest.

I enjoy teaching STEM and STEAM because it allows children to think outside the box and this is an amazing thing to watch!

I enjoy teaching in a way that children don't even realize just how much they are learning because they are having so much fun. I love to hear laughter and talking between the students. I am not a lecture based teacher and I enjoy back and forth Q&A style conversations through each class to keep the children thinking!

Learning Goals

Students will improve their critical thinking skills, their problem solving skills, and their creative thinking skills. Also, they will work with their fine and gross motor. So much learning happens with STEAM!

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Ms.Heather! I am married to Kenny, and we have a beautiful four year old boy, Alyas! My family and I are full-time living in a travel trailer, traveling the country! I was a Pre-K and Kindergarten teacher for 5+ years, have taught ESL online for 4 years to children ages 3-16 in China, and was the Director of a Developmental Day School for 3 years! I have a B.A. in Psychology with a Minor in Child Development from Ashford University. I absolutely love children and I have a passion for helping them learn! I believe every child is unique, and I make sure to keep this in mind during my teaching! I like to see each child's personality come out through the activity/craft, and not have everything look just like the other student's work. When working on my lessons, I think outside the box in order to make it fun and engaging for all of the students! Children tend to want to learn when they are having fun doing it. I love a challenge and I truly enjoy seeing a child overcome something they work so hard at! I am a very patient teacher and I enjoy having fun with the children while we learn! I was very shy before I started my teaching career, and what helped me break out of my shell was being silly, so I enjoy doing this with my class too! When planning my lessons, I make sure to give myself enough time to get through the whole lesson, but I also allow for flexibility, as lesson plans will not always go as planned. Children like to talk and I see nothing wrong with this, as we can learn just as much talking as we can with me teaching from the lesson itself! I like to have interactive classes, where all children are involved and enjoying themselves! If your child is shy and does not want to talk, that is okay too!
