The goal of this class is for students to understand how materials interact with each other. We will specifically look at materials used in shoes and clothing and their interaction with common substances like mud, juice, coffee, or anything that might stain your look! We will share our own stories and experiences and use these as a starting point for the content. Based on our individual experience and knowledge, we will cover: -Properties of common solid materials (cotton, suede, leather, rubber, plastic, mesh, and synthetic materials) -Properties of common liquid substances (including polarity, miscibility, viscosity, boiling point) -Properties of common cleaning supplies and how these affect our shoes/clothes and stains from various substances -Which product to use and why, based on your specific needs
Learning Goals
Students will learn about
-the properties of matter (solids and liquids) at the molecular level
-how molecular structure affects these properties
-how similar molecular structures can mix with or dissolve within each other ("like dissolves like")
-how this knowledge can be applied to many other scenarios

Supply List
No required materials, but students may bring their shoes or clothes with stains to practice what is learned or just show off your style.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
