Starting at the Very Beginning: Jump Start IEW Writing

Are you looking for a SOLID jump start to writing class for 2018 - 2019 school year? If so, this is it! Eva Goldstein-Meola, certified IEW instructor, as well as seasoned reading/writing teacher with over thirty years of teaching experience both online and in person with homeschoolers, is leading this interactive, introductory class geared towards grades 3 - 6. This class is the first steps in IEW Writing (Institute of Excellence in Writing using Teaching Writing Structure and Style). In this class, students will focus on brainstorming, note taking and writing both fiction and nonfiction pieces. Writing structures can include summarizing nonfiction, narrative summaries, beginning story writing using narrative summaries and beginning report writing. Simultaneously, students will also learn how to implement various stylistic techniques to increase description, as well as remove banned words (overused, boring words) from their writing. Students will receive approximately 30 minutes of homework daily. At home, student will produce a piece of work during the week that mirrors what was taught in class; however, on a topic of their choice. Classes start the week of January 15th, and end week of April 9th. No classes week of February 26, or weeks of March 26 - April 6. Make up class (if instructor cancels session) will take place during week of April 16th.
