In this one time 45 minute class, students will learn all the essentials they need to play a ukulele or guitar. This fast paced class will provide students with all materials covered in a PDF for future reference during their independent practice. We will cover the anatomy of the instruments, how to tune them, and how to read a chord chart, tab, and lead sheet. In addition, we will learn how to navigate Ultimate Guitar.com, which is a free resource for tabs and lead sheets. Plus, I will...
I am a musician with over 20 years of experience. I am a classically taught vocalist, but a self taught ukulele and guitar player. I was a classroom middle school music teacher for 4 years and taught this material to all of the students I was privileged to have in my classes. In addition, many of the strategies or practices that I share in this class is how I learned to play these instruments myself so I am confident that they can lead to a life long music practice.
Highly Recommend: A ukulele or guitar; if students do not already have these instruments at home they will not be able to practice and grow as musicians Teacher Provided Materials: A PDF copy of the slides for future reference
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
In this class, I will be demonstrating how to navigate UlimateGuitar.com, which is an independent website where professional and amateur musicians upload tabs and lead sheets for a multitude of instruments. Most of the resources on this website are free to use, but some versions of songs will be locked for paid users only. I will show students how to differentiate between the free to use tabs and subscribers only tabs, so they can make informed decisions regarding song choice. There are millions of songs in hundreds of different genres that students can learn on this site, so I want to be transparent that there may be songs on the website that you do not approve of. I recommend navigating the site with your student, so that you can select tabs/lead sheets together. During the class, I will be accessing the tab for "Stand by Me" by Ben E. King.
