US Grade 6 - 9
In a galaxy far, far away we'll take a look at the science behind the technology of Star Wars. How does a lightsaber work? What even IS hyperspace? Could we ever build the Death Star? We'll consult the official canon and the laws of physics to answer these questions and more, in-universe. We'll also take a look at some inspirations for these technologies, and a few real life analogues. Ultimately we want to know: can we do that on Earth? Class consists of a series of lectures with a few videos, and of course a ton of Q&A. Student participation is encouraged. There's no special prep or prerequisites, but I assume you've seen all the movies and probably the TV shows. Maybe you've played some of the video games or even flipped through a comic or two. Also, feel free to take part 1 and 2 in any order. They're non-sequential, covering all different technologies. No wrong way to do it. If you're taking or have taken part 1 and you don't see part 2, please reach out. I usually schedule part 2 based on interest and to follow an existing section of part 1. I'll see you in class, and may the force be with you.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Master's Degree from George Washington University
Hello! Language nerd, history buff, culture geek -- whatever you call it, that's me! I'm obsessed with how people connect and what brings us together. I examine history, literature, language, travel, food and everything human, looking for the personal stories hidden between the lines and the social narratives lurking in the broader context. I love it, and I can't wait to share it with you.

Speech Writing & Public Speaking
I am a former public relations professional with a masters in PR and bachelor's degrees in Spanish and theatre. In Washington, DC I honed my writing craft while working in think tanks to lead congressional relations teams, polling research programs and bilingual outreach initiatives. I did a little speech writing too. While earning BAs in Spanish, Portuguese and Theatre at the University of Texas, I pursued myriad interdisciplinary interests, minoring in French, Astronomy and History. Currently I have a niche interest and expertise in Classical Antiquity, particularly the geopolitical and military history of Mesopotamia, Greece and Rome. This has guided my current course of study and inspired the majority of classes I teach on Outschool.
