Class Experience

Using video clips, PowerPoint and class discussion students will learn all about Star Trek Starships while going through Star Fleet Academy. We will have interactive discussions, see pictures and videos of the different class of Starships. Students will work their way up from Cadet to Captain. We will explore Star Trek's various class of Starships:
 Nov 30 : Intrepid-class
 Dec. 7 : Galaxy-class
Dec. 14 : Constitution-class
Dec. 21: Constitution-class
Dec. 28: Excelsior-class
Jan. 4 Ambassador-class
Jan. 11 Nebula-class
Jan. 25 Miranda-class

1. Sharing Time: At the very beginning of class, we will have an “Open Forum”' in which students can share any material about Star Trek they would like to. (Writing: Short stories, pieces of long stories, poems. Artwork) Sharing time is optional: Students should never feel that they have to share unless they want to.

2. Lesson: We will use movie clips and powerpoints to learn about various Starships in Starfleet. During the class we will start with Open Forum, then the information portion: the movie clip or powerpoint will be introduced, then discussion. - (Note: This is a very active class that will have plenty of room for student discussions.)

3. Lastly, occasionally there will be a writing prompt to help students process what they have learned or experienced in the class. This is a 10-minute writing time in which the students will be given a writing prompt to work with. The prompts are lesson-based. Students are encouraged to have a pen and paper, or a word doc, available to them. The purpose of this time is to help inspire students - They are not required to work on the 'In-Class Writing Prompt' outside of class unless they would like to. There will be a sharing time after, but that is also optional. I will never require a student to share if they don't feel ready to.

Included in the class each student will get a free printable.
