Class Experience

Students will review, remediate, or accelerate skills in reading, math, writing, or study strategies based on common core and state standards.
I am certified in Elementary Education with a Bachelor's degree from the teaching college, Winthrop University. I have 22 years combined experience in elementary and early childhood classrooms in the public and private sectors. I have been a private tutor and consultant for 5 years for students ages 4 to 12, helping students make great gains in reading, math, writing, and study skills. I am trained in both Zoo-phonics and Orton Gillingham language arts curriculums and utilize multi-sensory strategies in my teaching.
Not all sessions will include homework; however, homework may be assigned based on completion of objectives and individual student needs. This will be communicated during each session.
Paper and pencil are always needed, but additional supplies may vary depending upon subject area and lesson objective. Other possible supplies include the following: Reading, Writing, Study Strategies: 1. White board, dry erase marker and eraser 2. Color pencils/crayons 3. Highlighters 4. Note cards or sheets of paper cut in 8 equal pieces Math: 1. Counters up to 30 (beans, pennies, buttons, etc) 2. Dice 3. Deck of cards 4. White board, dry erase marker and eraser
An initial assessment is performed and parents are sent an assessment report. A tutoring report is sent to the parent following tutoring sessions outlining student mastery of objectives and areas of challenge.
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
