In this 4-week course, students will read and discuss the first book in the Star Friends series.

1 hour per week. Each week, up to five chapters in the book should be read before the next class. This should take around 10-15 minutes of reading each day for five days.Class Experience

We will be reading the first book in the Star Friends series, Mirror Magic. This middle grade book is perfect for the elementary age student who love reading already or are trying to find a love for reading. We will start the course with an introduction to the material. Each week there will be a list of vocabulary words that we will review together that will be seen in the upcoming reading homework. Each week after the first will consist of discussion questions and opinions on what was read throughout the week. Each student will also have the opportunity to create and share their own Star Friend Animal. This class is meant to find the fun in reading. I believe that every student can find a love of reading once the right book is found. With the selected book I hope that each student will enjoy the journey of this book and find enjoyment in sharing their thoughts with the other students. Week 1: Talk about reading expectations for the class, review upcoming vocabulary words, brainstorm what animal friend each student would like. Week 2: Share what animal each student chose, if they have a picture to share, they can, discuss chapters 1-5 guided with some discussion questions, go over vocabulary for upcoming reading, brainstorm names for each animal. Week 3: Share the names of each animal, discuss chapters 6-10 guided with some discussion questions, go over vocabulary for upcoming reading. Week 4: Discuss chapters 11-13 guided with some discussion questions, go over the whole book in general.

Students will expand their vocabulary and reading comprehension.

This book revolves around a magical world, and it also contains the mention of a death of a grandparent.
