What do stars get for a 2nd place finish? ***a CONSTELLATION prize*** 😁 The solar system is one of my favorite things to talk about, especially with children! I have found the enthusiasm with this subject to be contagious, and nothing thrills me more than a student that gets excited about outer space. No matter how old I get, I still love discovering new things about it. Luckily for all of us, there seems to be a brand new discovery or event every single day! In this class, we will discuss not only these always alluring constellations, but other celestial objects amongst the stars as well, including asterisms, zodiacs, star clusters, nebulae, and galaxies. We will also talk about the original mythologies that bring life, drama, and fascination to these constellations. Students will use their wild and wonderful imaginations to form their own version of them as well. No 2 imaginations are the same, so I absolutely love it when the students share their interpretations! My favorite part of this class is these particular conversations and getting them involved and excited. Students can expect a conversational style class with plenty of open discussion about all things space related, although our main focus will be the constellations. Everyone's opinion is welcome, as I want all students to feel comfortable interacting with me, and each other. We will share fun facts and tell jokes, and after class I will send videos and a Blooket game that cover what we discussed! If you've never played Blooket before, you do not need an individual account. My link will take you directly to the game. Just enter a name/nickname and play! 😄 Whether it's a one-on-one class or a group environment, my number one goal of every class is to inspire a love of learning new things, and I'm excited to be able to do this with your child!
Learning Goals
My main goal as a teacher is always to launch a lifetime of space exploration and curiosity for my students, and inspire an enthusiasm in them to learn more about what exists beyond Earth. In this class, students will explore several constellations and the mythologies that bring them to life. They will use their individual imaginations to describe their own unique views of them, as well as discover other dazzling celestial objects in our universe. We have quite a few stunning photos to observe and discuss also. My favorite part about this class is getting to hear what the students come up with and how they view these "shapes" in the sky. I want to motivate an excitement for space, and even the possibility of becoming an astronomer one day! Blast off on this space adventure with me!!
