1 in-class hoursClass Experience
This first class will be part lecture, part Q+A where I share the stand-up comedy joke writing lessons I've taught to many working comedians and even to students at Princeton University! I also intend to offer future classes to students which will be more of a workshop going over the material they've written. If any of the students come prepared with their own jokes (completely not required), I'll also take time to go over their jokes and help them make improvements. But as this is the first class I'm offering on Outschool, I don't expect any of the students to have their own jokes...yet! This first course will cover: - The 3 main parts of writing a successful (and funny) joke. - What topics to write about. - How to generate material. and finally - How to overcome writer's block and gain confidence in your writing abilities (hint: no one is good when they first start).
Learning Goals
My hope is that students will come away from an understanding of how to write their own stand-up comedy style jokes, as well as, the confidence to begin writing and push past the insecurity many comedians face when they first start their comedy writing.

Parental Guidance
Since this is an Outschool class I will be asking all students to keep their jokes school appropriate. While I won't be delving into any controversial topics, there is a chance the students might bring them up.
Supply List
Nothing is required to take this class although something to take notes with is encouraged (laptop, notebook, whatever the student prefers).
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Teacher expertise and credentials
I'm happy to say I've made my living as a comedian and comedy writer for the past 20 years. I've taught comedy at NYC comedy clubs, in Chicago and Los Angeles as well as a comedy masterclass at Princeton University (in the same room Einstein taught in!). I've also performed in a few thousand live comedy shows and have appeared on Comedy Central, MTV, America's Got Talent and more.
