St. Patrick’s Day: History, Symbols, and Limericks

In this course, students will be introduced to the history and symbols connected to the celebration of St. Patrick's Day. The course begins with introductory activities that start with students creating Irish names. The introductory activities will continue with a video presentation on why St. Patrick's Day is celebrated and the history of the holiday. 1. Students will explain why St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated and explain who St. Patrick is. 2. Students will identify three or more symbols of St. Patrick’s Day and explain the relevance of each to the St. Patrick’s Day celebration. 3. Students will identify vocabulary unique to the country of Ireland and the celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. 4. Students will write limericks and explain the structure of a limerick.
I am offering this class as a tool to help students become more familiar with St. Patrick's Day, a holiday celebrated by many throughout the world.
