Class Experience

In this creative arts and crafts class, I have your budget in mind. With a few simple supplies, the students will learn step by step how to make a really cool heart-shaped bookmark. I will provide detailed instructions, tips and suggestions while demonstrating the process for all students to follow. I look forward to seeing how creative the students can be when decorating their bookmarks after construction is completed.

Students need to be comfortable and confident when using scissors and measuring with a ruler. It might be a good idea to have a helper handy if the student needs assistance with this, but remember that parents (or helper) must remain off camera while providing supervision in this class.

We will start class with a brief introduction of all participants and a check to see if everyone has all the necessary supplies handy. The students will need paper of their choice (construction paper works well for this), scissors, ruler, pen or pencil, tape, markers and any embellishments they would like to use for decorating if they like. At the end of class, we can all show off our work and inspire each other to make more bookmarks on our free time.

There is no previous knowledge or experience necessary to participate in this class.

Learning Goals

This class will provide students with an opportunity to exercise their creative side when making a paper bookmark for the Valentine's Day holiday. They will also enjoy meeting other students and sharing their joy of crafting. I have over 25 years of experience working with students of all ages, and I enjoy learning from them as much as I do teaching. Throughout the process of working on arts and crafts, we will have casual discussions on a variety of topics which allows students to practice their conversation skills as well as learn how to express themselves appropriately.

When teaching in the classroom, I always found that hands-on activities were the absolute best! Students enjoy the creative process, and when they can take away something tangible, they become more engaged in the process and appreciate the ownership of their work.
