Class Experience
This class is created for a Birthday pARTy! We will be creating the Birthday Black Cat. Grab your materials, and let's create a cute Squishmallow of your choosing! (Your favorite Squishmallow stuffies are welcome to join in as well. We will do a show & tell at the end of classes if/when time permits.) Each Squishmallow has a name, a 'Squad', and a back story. We will be learning about our subjects as we draw. This class is structured for Beginner to Intermediate artist- No previous experience is required, and the drawings can easily be modified dependent on how much detail each learner would like to incorporate. While this class is geared towards having FUN while creating, I plan for my learners to leave class with a good foundation of sketching and shading techniques, as well as some basic skills that can be applied towards future drawings. I create each drawing in advance, and then teach how to create their very own, step-by-step using simple shapes and lines, in a social and engaging setting. It's all about having FUN while exercising our creativity! Students will have 'Artistic freedom' to add their own spin on each piece we create. Students will be encouraged to show off their artwork during the draw-along, and engage with questions and answers. The last 5-10 minutes of class will be designated to adding color to their drawings using colored pencils, markers, or crayons. I use a second camera, so learners are able to see the in-progress and completed drawing up close. **Chromebook users- Please be sure your Chromebook is capable of using 'Gallery View' on Zoom in advance Attendance Policy: The class will begin on time. In order to create a smooth class for my students, we will have to continue forward if a learner arrives late.

Hello there-
Thank you for taking the time to learn a bit about me! My name is Mrs. Shelby, and I am an Art Instructor with a focus on drawing, painting, and clay sculpting. While I am fairly new to teaching on the Outschool platform, I have been professionally teaching art to children and adults for 15+ years.
I believe that creating Art should be FUN! I like to encourage my students to use their 'Artist license' to put their own spin on each piece we create. My favorite part of the day is getting to experience the look on a child's face when they accomplish something that they weren't aware they are capable of. It is my goal to nurture and grow a love for Art in each of my students.
A bit about me:
I began teaching at a local painting studio while finishing up my Art Degree in 2010.
I graduated in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts, with a focus in ceramics, from the University of West Florida.
After completing my degree, I traveled to the Amazon jungle in San Roque de Cabaza, Peru where I studied for 3 months fulfilling an Artist Residency. During that time, I furthered my knowledge of ceramics and painting, and learned how to make paints from natural pigments.
I have since fulfilled my dream of opening a painting studio.
I also love to hike, ride bikes with my husband, and travel as often as possible.
These days my husband and I spend time playing with our two young kids, and our Boston Terrier.
