Who are the real-world James Bonds and Jason Bournes, and what do they actually do? This 2-week, 4-meeting course will introduce students to the exciting world of espionage and intelligence. The course can be taken on its own or as an introduction to the semester-long, in-depth course on Intelligence and Espionage. In this class we will take a brief look at the U.S. government and which agencies do intelligence work. (Did you know there are 17 of them?) We'll talk about popular movies and what is real- and not so real- in the way Hollywood portrays espionage. We'll cover some basic methods to detect deception and why it doesn't work to try to get around them. And finally, we'll learn about different intelligence jobs and what students can do now to prepare to work in this exciting field. (You may be surprised that the most important thing is developing a good moral character!) Weekly homework will include a short writing assignment (1/2 page single spaced), watching a spy movie of your family's choice, and a deception detection activity (in person or by watching political debates, your choice.) Grades are available for your students' transcripts. Just let me know after registering if you would like progress and final grades. I have a BA in Intelligence Studies from the American Military University. I homeschooled my 6 children from 1st through 12th grades and enjoyed living in many exciting places around the world.
