Description: In this ongoing weekly camp, learners will train as junior spy through S.T.E.A.M. activities (science, technology, engineering, art, and math). Campers will heighten their power of observation, unlock lateral and critical thinking skills, decipher codes and clues, and build spy gadgets, and more. Each day will be a stand alone training and will start with a "briefing" on the area of spy training for the day. Discussion is encouraged as "intel" is shared through slides and video...
Campers will learn how spies, detectives, and scientists use the "Scientific Method" to solve problems and answer question. They will heighten their power of observation using the five senses, unlock lateral and critical thinking skills, decipher codes and clues, and problem solve, and engage in physical fitness activities.
I'm a published fiction (mystery) and nonfiction author, former homeschool mom of four, and have taught and tutored all ages for close to 20 years. For the last 7 years, I've taught Spy Kids, first as a summer camp, then as a full curriculum with a homeschool co-op. I'm excited to take this class, and others, online to reach more students with the fun and educational activities in learning to be a spy!
Some weeks outside activities will be given to enhance their spy experience.
*****Some sessions (observation & intelligence) will need a PRINTER OR ACCESS TO A PRINTER to print out several worksheets we will need in class. If this is a problem, contact me and we may be able to figure out another option! ****HIGHLY SUGGESTED: Backpack, bag or tote where you can fill each day's supplies for your learner. You may want to prepack the day's supplies in a plastic or paper sack and label them for easy organization between days. A weekly supply list and materials will be sent several days before each class. ****Pencil & Spy notebook for deciphering and taking notes each day! Supply list will be posted the week before, but basic supplies you should have around the house like recyclable items like water bottles, empty toilet paper rolls, tissue and cereal boxes, paper plates, spoons, rubber bands. Art supplies like glue/hot clue
Through class participation. I try to engage all learners and ask everyone to share either the chat box or in class and prefer cameras to be on unless there is a reason why they cannot be.
40 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
********Some weeks there will be PREP is essential for this camp to be a success for your learner. You will need a PRINTER OR ACCESS TO A PRINTER to print out worksheets we will need in class, depending on the week. The worksheet should be clearly visible so your camper can find them. If this is a problem, contact me before class and we can figure out another option! ***Parental guidance and safety precautions may be needed in the use of items in supply list like hot glue gun, glue, scissors, paint, rope, make-up etc. Please see specific supplies listed below. By signing up for this class, you are responsible for your child's safety at all times. *** Some video puzzles may be used and will contain words such as "murder," "killed," "stabbed" or "shot," but there will be no graphic pictures or explanations. These words are used to piece together the clues to solve mysteries. ****IMPORTANT SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: I've never had any problems, but parent or guardian is responsible for supervision and safety of participant.
