Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 3
***Please see the supply list for this class.

We will begin with introductions and a brief review of nouns.
I will introduce adjectives and explain how they are used to describe nouns.
Next, we will play a quick adjective/ noun matching game.
We will use pictures to understand how to identify nouns that need an adjective.
After that, we will use our "Adjective Sorter" page to brainstorm and categorize lists of adjectives that students will record on their own sheets. Students will learn to use their 5 senses to think of strong adjectives to describe a noun.
Students will learn that adjectives usually come before a noun, and practices writing sentences with appropriate adjectives. We will then learn how to use more than one adjective to describe a noun in a sentence, and practice applying it through group work and independent practice.
Finally, students will use the last worksheet, "Sprinkle on Some Adjectives," to record some of their favorite adjectives from the lesson and will demonstrate understanding by applying them to their own sentences.
We will finish class by having each student write a new "sprinkled" sentence describing a cupcake they would like to have, and share it with the class. If we have a full class, we may go over time to ensure each student has an opportunity to share. If time allows, we will play a quick review game before we close. This will be a fun, interactive class with demonstration, discussion, independent work, and activities. Be prepared to pack a lot in.

**** If your student has a handle on adjectives and needs to practice using stronger adjectives to edit their sentences, my course, “Adjectives That Pop,” would be a great class for them.
Learning Goals
