Spring Sight Word Bingo: 2nd and 3rd Grade
In this one-time class, students will play a game of sight word BINGO to practice recognizing high-frequency words using Fry's Third 100 Words.

Mastering sight words helps students read high-frequency words as soon as they see them! This automaticity means their brains can go straight to reading comprehension without the step of sounding out the words first. Playing BINGO is a fun way to practice sight words with peers. In each class: 1. Before we begin to play, we will have a few minutes of sharing time if students want to show and/or tell their favorite thing about Spring. 2. Each student will have two unique Spring-themed BINGO cards (sent the night before class for printing before class begins). 3. I will display one sight word at a time on our shared screen. I will read the word, spell the word, and use the word in a sentence. 4. I will call on a different student for each sight word, giving them the opportunity to use the word in their own sentence. Students always have the choice to pass when it’s their turn. 5. All students will look for the word on their BINGO cards and cover it with something that is movable (cereal, mini-erasers, etc.) so we can play more than one round. 6. Once someone gets BINGO, we will celebrate! 7. We will play as many rounds as time permits.

- Two sight word BINGO cards (the teacher will send via Outschool message the night before class for families to print) - Movable BINGO word covers of your choice (cereal, mini-erasers, goldfish, etc.) - A favorite Spring item to show the class (optional)
