Welcome to the Spring Semester Book Club! In this book club, we will meet once a week for sixteen weeks to discuss our books. We will read one book a week, and students will need to be ready to discuss the stories during our meeting. We will read 4 science fiction books, 4 mystery books, 4 new releases, and 4 horror books. My main goal is to have students dig deeper into analyzing a novel and feel confident in sharing their thoughts with their peers. Topics that we will cover include: Theme Foreshadowing Characters Genre Conflict Setting Narrator Writer's Intent The class structure is as follows: Week 1 - Students will read and discuss A Rover's Story by Jasmine Warga (science fiction) Week 2 - Students will read and discuss Notorious by Gordon Korman (mystery) Week 3 - Students will read and discuss Playing Through the Turnaround by Mylisa Larsen (new releases) Week 4 - Students will read and discuss The Girl in White by Lindsay Currie (horror) Week 5 - Students will read and discuss MiNRS by Kevin Sylvester (science fiction) Week 6 - Students will read and discuss Coop Knows the Scoop by Taryn Souders (mystery) Week 7 - Students will read and discuss Windswept by Margi Preus (new releases) Week 8 - Students will read and discuss The Stitchers by Lorien Lawrence (horror) Week 9 - Students will read and discuss Dragon Pearl by Yoon Ha Lee (science fiction) Week 10 - Students will read and discuss The Pear Affair by Judith Eagle (mystery) Week 11 - Students will read and discuss Two Degrees by Alan Gratz (new releases) Week 12 - Students will read and discuss The Ash House by Angharad Walker (horror) Week 13 - Students will read and discuss Daniel Coldstar: The Relic War by Stel Pavlou (science fiction) Week 14 - Students will read and discuss Ali Cross by James Patterson (mystery) Week 15 - Students will read and discuss Simon Sort of Says by Erin Bow (new releases) Week 16 - Students will read and discuss Mine by Deliah Dawson (horror) This class is for the student who devours books, and because of this, we will be reading one book every week and discussing the essential themes in each book. Students who enjoy sharing their thoughts with others either on the microphone or via the chat box will do well in this class. Students who do not like to participate may not enjoy this book club or feel very successful. I do not force students to participate but instead expect students to discuss, engage, and pay attention during class. Please support your student by making sure their video and mic are on and that they are ready to discuss each week. Please note, we need 5 students to run this book club. Please consider sharing the listing after you enroll your student. I recommend not purchasing any of the books until we have the minimum number of students. Thank you!
